A regenerative & community-oriented
farmstead in the South West.

What is Commonplace Vasse?
Commonplace books (or commonplaces) are a way to compile knowledge, usually by writing information into books. They have been kept since antiquity. Commonplace: locus communis in latin, means "a general or common topic", such as a statement of proverbial wisdom.
Commonplace Vasse is a regenerative farmstead that is used for private and community purposes, with general unifying themes of community, culture, slow-living, traditional wisdom, virtue, and honest earthly pursuits on the land.

We are a private property and farm, first and foremost, but we also have a number of spaces, collectively called "The Common Grounds", that various local businesses, community groups and individuals use for their unique purposes. From farming to homeschooling, from cafe to community gardens, from art to leisure, there is always a lot happening here.

We are always open to new, interesting, community-oriented, and values-aligned folks joining us in different ways with volunteering, working, staying, projects and more!

Commonplace Vasse is like a beautiful woven story of many histories, cultures and heartfelt people - unifying their stories on the shared, common ground of our beautiful semi-coastal x wetland x mediterranean farm here in the South West.

Long term
SPACES + SUBLEASES
We are currently open to the possibility of sub-leasing spaces at Commonplace for private use. We have lots of different spaces that can be utilised for different purposes. The land is rich in resources and we are open to partnering with the right people to do good and create beauty with them.

From time to time, we are also open to letting the land for larger events -- such as multi-day camps, weddings or other private events of scale, up to a few times a year.

Please contact us if this is something you'd like to explore.

"The Commons", as a general term, are the cultural and natural resources accessible to all members of a society, including natural materials such as air, water, and a habitable Earth. These resources are held in common even when owned privately or publicly. Commons can also be understood as natural resources that groups of people (communities, user groups) manage for individual and collective benefit. Characteristically, this involves a variety of informal norms and values (social practice) employed for a governance mechanism.

At Commonplace Vasse we have an ethos that first we must give to receive: we embrace cheerful giving (2 Corinthians 9).
Subleasing or accessing our shared "commons" does not not come with a sense of entitlement or ownership, but rather a sense of custodianship. All our projects, subleasees and community groups contribute what they can to the shared management of the "commons", and their gifts in return are innumerable and intangible in the Higher sense - community, connection, virtue, beauty.

All the elements at Commonpace Vasse feed into each other, working together to create a whole.
